European Capital of Inclusion 2024: Gold Award for Zagreb

The City of Zagreb has won the Gold Award for the European Capital of Inclusion and Diversity 2024. In competition with 70 cities and regions from the European Union, Zagreb won the gold award in the category of cities with more than 50,000 inhabitants. The city is the only representative of Croatia to reach the final, competing for this prestigious title with cities from Italy, Greece, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.

Zagreb has applied for a number of initiatives that promote equality, justice, inclusion and safety, through systematic, comprehensive and innovative programmes. These initiatives include support for women victims of violence, the homeless, people with disabilities, the LGBTIQ+ community, migrants and Roma. According to the European Commission, Zagreb has been among the top 10% of regions in the EU for years when it comes to combating poverty and social exclusion, competing with 244 European regions.
